INFO.Maywa Denki Nonsense Factory is a factory that fills your brain with extraordinary nonsense.

The Maywa Denki Nonsense Factory exhibition features a reproduction of the Maywa Denki Factory, which is the core of Maywa Denki's creative activities.
During the exhibition period, the president of Maywa Denki will be working on site. He will sketch an idea at the ARTBAY CAFE in the morning, assemble a nonsense machine in the afternoon, and give a live performance using an electric musical instrument in the evening. The Sound Garden features various unique musical instruments that visitors can play for free by pressing a switch. While next door, the Maywa Denki Shop sells toys and other goods, including products assembled on site.
In this exhibition, after showing Maywa Denki's entire creative process from "thinking, making, showing, to selling" in real-time, visitors will surely exclaim, "What is this!?" leaving a sense of confusion. However, after seeing the sketches and the nonsense machine production process, and touching the nonsense machines, visitors will start to understand what they are and how they fill people's brains with nonsense.
Please come and check it out!

ARTISTMaywa Denki

PROFILE
Maywa Denki is an art unit produced by Nobumichi Tosa. By wearing blue work clothes and calling artworks "products" and live performances "product demonstrations," the unit imitates the style of small and medium-sized enterprises that supported Japan during its rapid economic growth. Maywa Denki has developed various nonsense machines and held live performances and exhibitions in Japan and overseas. The unit also develops products, such as the note-shaped electronic musical instrument "Otamatone." In January 2016, Maywa Denki held their first large-scale exhibition at the McaM Museum in Shanghai, China. In 2018, they celebrated their 25th anniversary with a solo exhibition in Oita and Nagasaki. In March 2019, Maywa Denki opened its first official shop, Maywa Denki Akihabara Store, at the Tokyo Radio Department Store in Akihabara.

This project is sponsored by the 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival.
